Job Title: Dance Teacher Reports to: Director of the Arts Job Summary: Under the administrative supervision of the Head of School and the programmatic supervision of the Director of the Arts, the Dance Teacher will work to teach dance (‘Performing Arts’) at Plessy, teaching individuals, groups, and classes as appropriate. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Teach of Performing Arts and Dance, including planning and preparing lessons; setting and marking of work; and assessing, recording and reporting on development, progress and attainment of that work. Educate students in different acting styles, methods, and techniques, and the history of dance. Train students in how to communicate, control and project their voices, and present themselves. Work as a member of a team in the shaping of Departmental policy and practice, introduction of curricular initiatives, the preparation and development of schemes of work, units of study and methods of teaching and assessment. Assist students in creating their own dance pieces, organizing and managing the learning environment. Produce, direct, and help prepare performances, rehearsals, assemble and manage lighting and sets, and assess students' performance. Teach elements of stagecraft, stage makeup, costume craft, play writing, or play direction. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on committees as required. Perform other duties as required. Qualifications: * Bachelor's degree (Required), * Certification in the area of curriculum focus (preferred), * 4+ years teaching experience (preferred), * Teaching Certificate (preferred), * Track record of success in preparing and teaching students in the discipline of performing arts. * Knowledge of the National Arts Standards.
